“The reason I came in here’s that the belief I had in this group, the belief that they may leave a legacy which very few teams have left behind which other teams moving down will attempt to emulate,” Shastri informed bcci.tv following his appointment.
“Next two years is to find the smooth transition occurring. You’ll find a whole lot of youngsters coming — in both white-ball Tests and setup. You want to recognize another three-four bowlers to increase the pool at the end of the tenure. My effort by the end of the tenure is to leave the group in a more joyful space so that they can decide on a legacy at the time to come,” he added.
He also emphasised that he, together with the team, would be trying to improve on all fronts and be sure they learn from errors.
“You have got to learn from your mistakes, nobody is ideal. When you strive for excellence and try to raise the bar then you need to pay attention to detail,” he said.
